The Ministry of Defence has confirmed that it has lost the personal details of 600,000 people following the theft of a laptop last week. The laptop was stolen from the Edgbaston area of Birmingham last week, and contained confidential personal data of people who had expressed an interest in joining the Royal Air Force, the Royal Marines or the Royal Navy. Amongst the details were family details, medical records, National Insurance numbers and passport details. The laptop also held the bank records of at least 3,500 people.
